Getting My Workout On – Weight-lifting

This week, I joined Philip for his weight training day at the gym. For the last 3 weeks, Philip has been participating in an online “12-week Lean Body Trainer” weight-lifting program. The results have been quite well. So, I asked him if the workout was suitable for a lady like myself (trying to get back into my workout routine). After giving me the *side eye*, he sent me a few links and suggested that I try some of the exercises. I didn’t until I joined him at the gym this week for “Week 3 Day 2″ of the program which focuses on the chest, shoulders and triceps.

Takin it to the house in my BK hat!

Yessir, ya girl is lifting weights this week! I actually enjoyed this, and will likely follow the program starting back on week one. Ya’ll nothing can hold a sista down, but a 30lb barbell! I’m not letting that stop me! Because I’m still building my strength, I used weights that I could actually lift (which should be a no-brainer).

I did like the fact that I had Philip there to provide training for me. The hour we were at the gym flew by! I did feel some soreness the next day, but I hear that’s a good thing because that means the muscles are building (or something like that).

Last year, I actually spoke with personal trainer, David Robinson regarding tips on choosing the right weight.

On a side note, ladies, there is something cool about going to the gym with your man and working out together. Just sayin’.

Fabulous guide to choosing the right weight. I’ve never seen it explained that way. And your account is making me want to start weight lifting again!

Hi, Karen. I think that you will enjoy it. Most trainers will suggest including weight training in your cardio workout to build muscle, which I believe helps cut down fat.
