Sunday, October 20, 2013 (3pm – 6pm) my friends and I joined together to bring a smile to breast cancer survivors and their families with a free fundraising event.
Although, I haven’t been touched personally by breast cancer, and so far no one in my family has, I am moved by the fight of those affected. As I started to plan the event and tell others about it, I was surprised at the number of women, whom I thought I knew well, were affected by this disease. Some came out because they had someone in their lives who has been affected by the disease. They wanted to take part in the ‘sisterhood’ of just being together, and not feeling alone. We all need to know that we are not alone in dealing with struggles in our life whether it’s a debilitating disease or other personal struggle.
Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and vendors for helping make the event enjoyable for all. During the event several survivors shared their stories of strength and encouragement. It brought me to tears.
The beautiful pink balloon arch by Balloons, Arches and Flowers greeted the guests upon arrival.
Guests received pink bags filled with Palmetto Health’s tips on how to to do self breast exams at home along with hair care samples from Curls Unleashed and African Pride; travel-sized bottles from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport; bottles of water; and more to stay fabulous and healthy.
Courtney of Natural Aspects, our style sponsor, provided complimentary makeovers for our guests.
The team of Signature Care by Pynk Hair Loss & Control Clinic provided educational tips for those dealing with hair loss due to chemotherapy treatments.
Guests were treated to delicious food for the soul by our food sponsors Uncle Ned’s Catering, Creating Cooking and Arsena’s Sweets.
We helped Rosalyn Rockhold raise funds for her participation in the Charltotte, NC AVON Walk for Breast Cancer.
Thanks to Deanna Bookert of the Bookert Agency for stepping in as our event sponsor.
