I’m going thru a health/food makeover. As I get older, my body doesn’t operate like it used to. My 37-year-old body doesn’t operate like it did when I was in my early 20s. I’m quite sure the reason has to do with what I’m fueling/feeding myself and how much (or not) I exersize. Ya’ll, I love to eat. I’m a southern girl who LOVES all the fixin’s. But I need to take my health a bit more seriously. I’d like to have more energy, get a handle on digestive issues and keep my weight at a healthy level. So, my hubby, who’s a personal trainer (go figure) suggested that we try the Whole 30 diet.
“Cut out all the psychologically unhealthy, hormone-unbalancing, gut-disrupting, inflammatory food groups for a full 30 days. Let your body heal and recover from whatever effects those foods may be causing.” – Whole30.com
The diet consists of eliminating dairy, sugar, flour, wheat, beans, rice and mostly processed foods from your regular eating plan. So no pasta, cookies, cakes, pancakes or french fries. Everything that I LOVE! Daily at 3pm I typically will take a cookie/pastry/coffee break.
However, starting August 1, I decided to challenge myself and change how I eat. The overall diet has made me read labels, ask questions about what’s in my food at restaurants, cook more and eat more fruits and veggies. The initial week was HARD! I had a sugar crash on day 3 and got dehydrated. But I discovered that coconut water is WAY better than Gatorade, and I drank that instead. I’m learning to make different food choices. It’s a process for sure.
During the process I’ve been recording updates via Facebook Live posts on my page.
Here are a few.
